Comments: In 'Australian Painting' Bernard Smith quotes from a review of the Royal Art Society annual exhibition in the Sydney Sun (1st September, 1916): 'Mr Datillo Rubbo has joined the pointillists... and has dragged two students at least, Mr Wakelin and Miss Tempe Manning, after him. The three of them splash merrily with spots of crimson and green and vermillion and yellow, and the results are certainly amazing.'
