Comment: This is a sketch for the SS Westralia mural depicting the four seasons. Other sketches for the mural by both Dundas and Dorothy Thornhill, depicting summer, autumn and spring are in the Collection of Ballarat Fine Art Gallery. One sketch, Summer Wind, was exhibited at Macquarie Galleries, 1978, Cat. 33 and at 'Douglas Dundas 1900-1981', Art Gallery of NSW, 1982, no. 82 (illustrated on p 51 in the catalogue). The sketches were apparently made at different times leading up to the painting of the SS Westralia mural which was completed in 1948. The ship was later broken up for scrap and the murals no longer survive.
