The Australian Impressionist artists Mahoney and Fullwood earned money from newspaper illustration while painting and exhibiting in the 1880s and 1890s.  Mahoney drew for numerous publications including The Picturesque Atlas of Australasia and The Bulletin.  He also illustrated books by Henry Lawson and Banjo Patterson. Prior to the publication of the engraving of the A. J. C. Autumn Meeting – The Lawn at Randwick. Fullwood had been the artist for a large wood-engraving of Sydney which was published in the centennial issue of the Sydney Mail (21 January 1888). This is appears to be an extremely rare engraving. We have not previously seen a separate copy of it appear for sale on the market although there are probably copies filed within issues of The Sydney Mail in libraries.
